Homecoming Harvest, an event offered music, food, and merchandise for students and visitors after the Homecoming Parade. This is the first year the university and city have collaborated to host this event. The event took place from 6-9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walker County Annex. Evangelina Covarrubias, the Program Coordinator for Special events in the Department for Student Activities, said the event was to capitalize on the fall festivities to involve the community and students. Many vendors appeared, including Annel Guadalupe, the Main Street organization Manager for the City of Huntsville who is pictured on the left. “I think it’s a beautiful visual of the partnership between the city of Huntsville and the University, and it brings more students downtown,” Guadalupe said. Student organizations arrived for outreach and awareness as well, such as Samantha Devora, pictured on the left, who is Treasurer of the Student Design Collective. The organization’s goal is to help students interested or majoring in graphic design get experience through helping other organizations with graphic design projects. On the right is Sydnie Kellum, Vice President of A Lion’s Roar, an organization meant to spread awareness about issues relating to domestic abuse and sexual assault. Various activities and showcases were offered to students. Claude Sims, a professional juggler, stood on stilts while juggling for the crowd, offering visitors to toss them back so he could catch them and continue juggling. H-E-B, a local grocery store, attended the event and gave out water bottles to visitors. Zack Berry, the Top Store Leader for the Huntsville Location, stated that they were involved in the first fall festival Sam Houston State has hosted. Nicolas McKee, a freelance worker for Texas Elite Events, offered pictures with a green screen background with various options for visitors to choose. Covarrubias expressed interest in the event staying next year, whether the homecoming celebration returns to October or stays in November.
