The Sam Houston Bearkats will have an extra day to rest up as they head into their first midweek matchup of the season.
SHSU’s baseball game at Rice University, initially scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been postponed and will now take place on Wednesday. First pitch from Reckling Park in Houston is set for 2:30 p.m.
The Bearkats cited “the likelihood of inclement weather in the Houston area on Tuesday” in a press release announcing the postponement. Fans will now have to wait one more day to catch the action as both teams prepare for the rescheduled matchup.
The National Weather Service issued the forecast for for Tuesday night: “Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a slight chance of showers. Low around 41. Windy, with an east wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.”
Wednesday is expected to have frigid temperatures in the low 40’s and wind gusts as high as 30 miles per hour, though there doesn’t appear to be a significant risk of storms that would prevent the game from being played.
The Sam Houston Bearkats are aiming to bounce back after dropping two games in their series against Missouri State this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Rice Owls are returning from Puerto Rico, where they struggled in a season-opening tournament, finishing 0-3 through the weekend.
With both teams hungry for a win, they’ll use this extra day to prepare for an intense matchup.
