Washington, D.C., experienced a tragic shooting Monday, one of many shootings that have occurred in the United States. And of course, gun control is now the main discussion that has been brought up since the shooting barely 24 hours later.

President Barack Obama is urging Congress to make a decision being in favor of gun control. Obama has said that he has done all he can to press the issue and now it is up to Congress.

The topic has run its course, and now gun control is focusing on two main components: background checks before the purchases of guns and the mental state of a person wishing to purchase a gun. There were reported signs of mental illness in the gunman responsible for the attack.

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-Nev), spoke at a press conference about the issue, and where it stands right now with congress.

Obviously, he wants the votes and is for gun control. However, I see how Congress could be at a stand still. It’s a huge deal to discuss whether or not someone has a constitutional right to have a gun, especially if that right is protected by the document America is based upon.

I’m glad that it is a conversation going on in Congress, and I am not sure how it is going to turn out. But I am not sure Obama and gun control supporters are going to see their side prevail just because there was another shooting on Monday.
