The Sam Houston State cross country team opened the season with an impressive performance at the Texas A&M Alumni Meet in College Station on Saturday.Eli Umanzor and Brandon Moseley finished in the top five on the men’s side by placing fourth and fifth respectively in the four mile run. Umanzor had a time of 20:30 and Moseley posted a time of 20:41.On the women’s side, Sarah Hershman, Lauren Smith and Erika Wright all placed in the top 10 individual races. Hershman finished fifth in the three-mile race with a time of 19:05. Smith was right behind her in sixth with a time of 19:08.Next up for the Kats will be the Rice Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
