Sigma Tau Delta, English Honor Society, and the Photographic Society will host the first “Catch 22 Liberal Arts Festival” on Saturday from 2 p.m. to midnight at the Old Main Pit on campus.

The free festival is open to everyone and will feature various forms of art.

“We are trying to combine theatre, music, literature, photography and art,” said Chris Taylor, Sigma Tau Delta member.

The group hopes that having such a variety of art in one festival will appeal to a broader group of people.

A group of students came up with the idea for this type of event a year ago and were finally able to get it organized this semester.

“The main purpose of this event is to foster the art and intellectual community,” Taylor said. “We hope to use this festival as a way to organize and form a group of students from theatre, music, art, dance, photography and literature and make this a biannual festival.”

From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., pieces of art and photography will be on display. Also during this time various performance pieces will be done.

From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. a poetry hour will take place featuring readings by several poets including Matt Buschi, an SHSU alumnus.

After poetry hour the music will begin and continue until midnight.

Featured bands include The League from Fort Worth, The Influence from Huntsville and DJ Seth Lee from Austin.

This kind of broad-spectrum event does not happen very often in Huntsville, so take this opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy a day of art, theatre, music and poetry, Taylor said.

The “Catch 22 Liberal Arts Festival” gives students a chance to support the arts in Huntsville and relax at a free all day event. With the variety the day will provide there is something for everyone.
