How do you know it’s springtime? Easy. SHSU’s Program Council hosts its annual week long Spring Fling.
The event kicked off yesterday, with Mobile Massage Therapy. Professionals from the T. John E. Company offered massages in the Lowman Student Center Mall Area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“It was the best five minutes of my day,” said sophomore Kristen Smith. “I worked out yesterday and I was really sore, so it helped.”
You can also get your name painted on a grain of rice today, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students can have their names or the names of their loved ones placed on a single grain of rice and inserted in the vase of their choice to be place on the chain of an assortment of necklaces, bracelets or key chains. The activity and take home souvenirs are free of charge.
Program Council has also arranged for its event P.C. Comic View: Spring Fling Comedy Show, to also take place next Tuesday at the LSC Theatre at 8 p.m.
Wednesday night the highlight of the week takes place with “Midnight Mayhem”, a co-partnership with SHSU’s Department of Recreational Sports.
“This event is the bench mark of spring,” said Godwin Etuk, programming chair for Program Council.
The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Health and Kinesiology Center and continues throughout the night ending at midnight.
Program Council will host activities ranging from inflatable obstacles, bungee basketball and a football toss. Students will also have the opportunity to make their own DVD for $1.
The Department of Recreational Sports’ events will consist of tournaments such as Twister, dominos, spades, Hot shot and others.
Winners of the event can win up to $500 worth of Barnes and Noble textbooks for one semester.
Free food and dinks will also be provided.
“This is one of our biggest events of the semester,” said Laura Springel, of Program Council. “‘Midnight Mayhem’ attracts about 800 people. We host this event to get students in the mood for spring and finals.”
No events will take place Friday. Spring Fling will resume on Saturday with Bearkat Attack, a community service attack sponsored by Rotaract, SHSU’s community service organization. The event will be held the West Hill Mall beginning at 7 a.m.
