Pool fanatics and video game lovers will now have a place to hone their skills and have a good time without having to travel a long distance. The Kat Klub, the LSC game room, is set to open soon. The Kat Klub will have a variety of state-of-the-art facilities for SHSU students to enjoy.Gary Roark, manager of the Kat Klub, said the new facility would have pool tables, 3-D interactive games, foosball and table tennis. He said there would be a 750-CD jukebox, four televisions sets and a Bose surround-sound stereo system. Roark said the televisions are currently mounted but not wired with cable, and a cable company will be arriving soon to complete the wiring. He said the television sets would be used for viewing basic television programs and for watching various SHSU sporting events such as Bearkat football games.Roark said he wants to wait until everything is in place and ready for service before the Kat Klub opens. “Everything needs to be in place before we open it,” said Roark, “As with any new business, it is important to make a good first impression.”Roark said the Kat Klub is hosting a contest for students to guess the exact date that it will open. The student that guesses the date will receive either an hour of free pool, interactive 3-D games or table tennis. Students may pick up an entry slip from the LSC Information Desk. Roark said actual monetary rates for game play have not been decided yet, but everything will be decided before the Kat Klub opens. Some SHSU students expressed mixed views about the opening of the Kat Klub.Sophomore Jeffrey Bowden said he walked by the Kat Klub after the weekly Thursday night Chi Alpha meeting and saw the workers inside setting everything up. “The pool tables and the video games were set up, and it looked awesome,” said Bowden. “I think the Kat Klub is a pretty cool idea,” said freshman Matt Elliott. “It certainly helps when you and your friends can’t think of anything to do. It’ll be a great place to hang out and have fun. I, for one, am looking forward to it.”Sophomore Susan Westbrook said, “I don’t really care about it; I usually have things to do that are more important. Plus, I would rather support Corner Pocket if I decide to go anywhere like that.””I can’t wait until it opens. Hopefully, it will stay open on the weekends,” said freshman Albert Guerra.Roark said some advantages to the Kat Klub over other similar facilities are cheaper rates, state-of-the-art games and the opportunity for students to participate in special activities that will happen on a regular basis.
