The SHSU Alumni Association is sponsoring a tailgate party at noon in the Bowers Stadium parking lot prior to the Homecoming game against McNeese.”As far as the events for [Homecoming] day, we encourage the students to participate in the parade and then go to the pre-game activity at the tailgate party,” said Kevin Hayes, director of Alumni Relations.Before every home game, the Alumni Association holds a tailgate party with food, music, prizes, games and fun.”The [Homecoming] tailgate parties are normally bigger than the regular tailgate parties that we have during the year, but they’re always fun and the food gets better around Homecoming. A lot of people show up,” said Ericka Fuailier, Homecoming parade host.There will be many activities sponsored by the Alumni Association, student organizations and community members.”The Alumni tent will have a moonwalk and face paint, and a raffle to win an autographed Bearkat football,” said Hayes.SHSU military will also have several activities.”At the tailgate, they are going to have a rock climb again. They are also going to have their paint ball arcade and they’re going to have a couple of military displays which will include a tank and black-top helicopter,” said Hayes, of SHSU military support.”The wall will be fun; I know a lot of people enjoy that and the paintball arcade was very entertaining,” said Hayes.These activities were planned with the SHSU student in mind, said Hayes, in hope that more students will come and participate with Homecoming events.”This is my first year participating in Homecoming activities,” said Fuailier, who, in addition to hosting the parade, is assisting the Alumni office with its float.”The planning committees’ objective was to encourage a lot of student participation, community participation and alumni participation,” said Hayes.The tailgate concert series will continue with Davin James, sponsored by First National Bank of Huntsville.”I always want to make sure people know there’s a lot of food, music and fun,” said Hayes.Following the tailgate party is the Homecoming football game at 2 p.m.”I think, for a Homecoming football game, it will be an exciting football game because McNeese is one of the top teams of the country that will be visiting our campus,” said Hayes.
