Recreational Sports will host its fall Poker Walk on Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LCS Mall Area.Poker Walk is an activity where students, faculty and staff can participate, said Amy Swingle, assistant director for recreational sports. Upon registration, participants receive a sealed envelope containing a poker card. They then walk, run or jog to the next station, where they receive another sealed envelope. The process continues until the participants have visited all the stations, collected all the envelopes and is back at the starting line. At that point, the sealed envelopes are opened, revealing a poker hand. The participant with the best hand wins.”It’s not a race; it’s a fun activity,” said Swingle. No pre-registration is required. Those interested may register at the event. Faculty and staff may register as groups by submitting a form to Recreational Sports by Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.”Several door prizes will be given, along with SHSU paraphernalia and $25 cash coupons,” said Swingle. Event sponsors are SHSU’s Barnes and Noble bookstore, Student Activities, the Office of Vice President of Student Services, the Counseling Center and Student Legal Services. Members from each of these groups will be seated at one of the stations.”This is an event that I would be interested in. It gives everyone an equal opportunity to win, because your physical ability does not matter in this game,” said freshman Heather White. The Poker Walk was started last fall, and has been hosted once every semester since.”We have had a very big turnout in the past, and it keeps getting bigger every year,” said Swingle. For more information about the Poker Walk, contact Recreational Sports at 294-1985.
