The “friends with benefits” editorial I wrote Tuesday was not representative of my beliefs or my views as a person. It was to make you think.The last line of my editorial was deleted which said, “Your loving friend, Screwtape.” That was to hit the point home that students were being mislead by a devil. In the C.S. Lewis book “The Screwtape Letters”, Screwtape’s character is a high-ranking devil in Hell and he writes letters to Wormwood, whose mission is to corrupt a man’s soul. I read the book and I thought maybe the editorial would fix a problem I think a lot of college students face.I used a Seinfield episode for some of my tips on how to keep a “friends-with-benefits” relationship going, in case you thought some of the ideas looked familiar.All I wanted to do was detour you students from thinking that there is fulfillment in “friends with benefits.” I hope that I wrote the article so you could see how weak and gullible us humans can be.”Friends with benefits” do not lead to strong and healthy relationships. It weakens the friendship and ruins the bond that is built on trust.
