Sam Houston Rugby fell 10-13 to Baylor in a close match on Saturday. Captain Casey Dillon scored all of SHSU’s points, including nabbing an interception for a try under the posts to begin the second half. The sweltering conditions proved difficult for both teams. The Bearkats kept the ball at the Bears’ end of the field for most of the first half, but were unable to capitalize on key opportunities. The Bears, however, kept the pressure constant and never relented. “It was a scrappy game that left much to be desired from both sides,” Coach Wesley Boyd said. “No doubt, though, they had more left in their tank than we did at the end. The game could have gone either way, but they played better as a team. We were clearly disappointed with some of the sloppy play, but it’s early in the season. We have time to patch things up.”The team plays in the Fort Worth tournament this weekend. The next home action for rugby will be on Saturday Oct. 26, when they take on North Texas at Pritchett Field.
