Dear Houstonian,
I am writing this letter as a response to an article printed in last Wednesday’s paper. In this article, the Houstonian recognized six new professors that have been added to the Department of Business Administration. I appreciate the new faculty being recognized. I welcome them to the school and wish them the best of luck in beginning their new careers at Sam Houston. However, I have to wonder why other departments were not included in this article. I personally know of two new biology professors, one added last year and one just this year. They are and will continue to be tremendous assets to the Biological Sciences Department. Dr. Justin Williams and Dr. Ken Wunch deserve to be welcomed and recognized for their hard work just as much as the six professors already mentioned.Last year, Dr. Williams joined us as a biologist specializing in botany. His dissertation was studying Mexican floristics of the oleander and periwinkle family. Currently, he is doing vegetation mapping and other various environmental projects for the military. Dr. Wunch arrived this year from Louisiana. He received his doctorate from Tulane University and specializes in environmental microbiology. He is currently working on three projects: attractants for Formosan termites, autism and bioremediation.Likewise, I’m sure that with increased enrollment many other departments have also gained new faculty. I have to express my disappointment in the paper’s failure to include other departments besides business. Why not make an effort to include all new faculty members in every department instead of focusing only on one area? I realize that the Business department might have contacted the paper, the author may be pursuing a business major or minor, or some other circumstance may be responsible for incomplete coverage of the article. But, I urge the paper to take the initiative and be more thorough in their research.
Sincerely,
Gloria Eshelbrenner
