Josh McCown became the highest drafted player in Sam Houston State history when he was taken in the third round by the Arizona Cardinals, with the 81st overall pick. McCown , who transfered to SHSU from SMU for his senior year, was the fourth quarterback taken in the draft, after Tulane’s Patrick Ramsey.Keith Heinrich was the 174th overall pick in the draft, when the Carolina Panthers picked him in the sixth round. Heinrich, who was listed by many draft experts as the eighth best available tight end, was the 15th tight end taken in the draft. Heinrich was a four-year letterman for the Bearkat football team, as well as a basketball player for three years.Keith Davis became the third Bearkat from the 2001 class to get a shot at the NFL, signing a free-agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
