In the tennis team’s final regular season action of the year, the Bearkats wiped Stephen F. Austin State under the rug with a 5-2 victory to tie the team’s most single season victories record.”I am really proud of the way the girls fought today,” said Bearkat coach Micheal Hunt. “This was a big win for us to complete the season.”Ivette Andrade’s decisive single’s win in her final match as a Bearkat led the team to its 12th victory of the year, which put the team at 12-13 overall. The team had a disappointing 4-16 record last year.Andrade was also No. 1 in the doubles competition with teammate Diala Ammar.Andrade ended her SHSU career with 58 singles victories, 28 in the 2001-02 season, and 44 doubles victories.”I’m especially happy for Ivette and our other senior Diala Ammar,” Hunt said. “They have provided outstanding leadership for us this year.”The team’s victory against SFA marks the first time the Bearkats have defeated the rival Lady Jacks since 1996.Mounia Hassib, Veronica Castillo and Jayme Holstrom posted individuals wins to contribute to the team effort. Teams Hassib-Erika Ruddich and Castillo-Holstrom posted doubles victories.The victory also landed the team in seventh place in the final Southland Conference standings, while SFA ended the season in eight place with a 7-10 overall record and a 3-7 SLC record.”Now, we’ve got to build on this momentum and continue to improve,” Hunt said.
