The course at the Laredo Country Club proved challenging to the Bearkat golf team, as it suffered its worse finish of the season at the Border Olympics last weekend, the team’s last action before the Southland Conference Tournament.The team finished 15th among a field of 17 teams, led by Baylor University.Shaun Goodwin put forth the best Bearkat effort of the tournament with a 72-72-74-219 three-round total for 25th place.One stroke off, Scott Ragsdale’s 74-71-75-220 three-round total put him in 33rd place.Greg Buckner had a three-round total of 78-74-73-225 for 58th place.Ryan Polzin, one of the team’s strongest players, finished near the back of the Bearkat pack with a 77-70-79-226 total for 63rd place.Jeff Grace fell in 86th place, with a 75-78-81-234 three-round total.The Bearkats finished behind the three SLC teams that competed in the tournament. Texas-Arlington placed fifth, Lamar placed seventh and Texas-San Antonio placed 10th.The team will head to the SLC Tournament April 14-17. It will be held at the Twins Lake Golf Course in Canton, Texas.The team ranks fifth in the conference in team per round scoring averages, with a 33.13 (15 rounds-4502).
