A family friend has created a donation page for the family of a Sam Houston State University student who drowned in the Guadalupe river Tuesday afternoon.
William Murray, 21, was swimming across the Guadalupe river near New Braunfels when he went under and did not resurface, according to officials.
Hannah McDonald, a Murray family friend, created the donation page which has already received $1,250.
Several Facebook users flooded the Bring TJ Murray Home Safe Facebook page, the site dedicated to locating Williams brother, Thomas TJ Murray who has been missing for nearly a year.
This family has been through enough, how could this happen! Taylor Lidgett Alcala said on Facebook. God where are you in this time of need. I just don’t understand…
The page also confirmed the death of the junior criminal justice student.
As many of you have heard, the Murray’s lost their 2nd youngest son, William, tonight, the Facebook page said. Please say a prayer for the Murray’s through this difficult time.
His friends were watching and called 911 before searching the water themselves, according to news reports from KGNB news.
One of his friends located Williams body and brought him back to shore. A CCSO deputy began CPR at that point.
He was transported to Christus New Braunfels Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.
Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Jennifer Saunders was also called to the hospital to make the official pronouncement and to decide if an autopsy is needed.
TJ Murray disappeared on Oct. 19 from a bar in Montgomery County. Police have still not ruled out foul play in his case.
The reward for information on TJ has been raised to $20,000.
William and TJ were two of four sons to Tom and Janelle Murray, both coaches and teachers in the Oak Ridge North area of Conroe.
A Comal County justice of the peace has ordered an autopsy.
