Although the Indianapolis Colts were unable to come up with the victory on Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers, Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne was able to take control of 11thplace on the National Football League’s All Time Receiving Yard List.
Wayne is one of two players who are still active in the NFL on the Top 20 list for receiving yards, Tony Gonzales is the other currently ranked 6thAll Time.
Entering the 2013 NFL Season Wayne ranked 14thon the All Time for receiving yards with 13,063. With week 6 in the record books Wayne has accumulated 453 yards on 33 catches. During the contest against the Chargers Wayne was able to haul in 5 receptions for 88 yards, but was held out of the end zone for the second straight week.
The Colts longtime receiver was also able to surmount Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Hines Ward for 8thAll Time on the receptions list. During Wayne’s career with Indianapolis he has hauled in 1,001 receptions form two different quarterbacks. Wayne now has more receptions than such NFL greats as Randy Moss, Michael Irving, and Charlie Joiner. Wayne currently only needs 24 receptions to pass Isaac Bruce and 78 more to pass Terrell Owens. As the season progresses there is no reason to think that Wayne should not catch or even pass the great Tim Brown who has 1,094 receptions.
During Peyton Manning’s time with the Indianapolis Colts it was not a secret that Number 87 was a favorite target. Manning reputation of some of the most precise throws in NFL history fell into the hands of Reggie Wayne. Alongside Marvin Harrison the wide receiver tandem was one of the most unstoppable forces in the NFL from 2001-2008. During this span with the Colts the pair collected 1,265 receptions for 17,155 yards. Some fans’ believed that with Manning leaving during the 2012 season and the Colts about to being a rebuilding project that Wayne would follow suit, however Wayne decided to re-sign with the Colts through the 2015 season. According to Collin McCollough, Senior Writer for the blogging site Bleacher Report, reported the deal was worth 17.5 million with 7.5 million of this money being guaranteed. Even with Andrew Luck being a young quarterback Wayne as not see his numbers diminish amassing over 1,800 yards on 139 receptions since the start of the 2012 season. With Luck as his new quarterback the possibilities are endless, but one thing is for sure at this rate Wayne is looking to take over sole possession of 8thAll Time in Receiving Yards and 5thAll Time in Receptions by the end of the season.
