Four Sam Houston State University students were arrested and more than $20,000 was seized in connection to a drug search at The Grove apartment complex Wednesday, according to Huntsville Police Department police reports.

Senior business administration major Caleb Riley, sophomore criminal justice major Natalie Castro, sophomore computer science major Cory Powdrill and senior business administration major Brandon Powdrill were all arrested in connection with last night’s bust. Kaitlyn York, 21, and William Jones, 23, were also arrested, the report stated.

York was charged with two state jail felonies for the manufacture and delivery of marijuana and controlled substances. She was also charged a second degree felony for possession of a controlled substance.

“After we did the search, York had the most charges for deliver of marijuana and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, which was in this case Xanex,” Lt. James Barnes of the Huntsville Police Department said. “We found, it appeared, Ms. York was the facilitator of the drugs.”

According to Barnes, Brandon Powdrill gave the police department consent to search his apartment after showing up to his adult probation class intoxicated on the prescription drug Xanax.

“He told us there was more drugs at his apartment at The Grove,” Barnes said. “Ultimately, he gave us consent to search that apartment.”

Riley was charged with a class A misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance, and Castro was charged with a class B misdemeanor for possession of marijuana. Cory Powdrill was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia, which was a glass pipe, Barnes said. Both Brandon Powdrill and Jones were arrested for public intoxication, according to HPD documents.

Barnes also said a large sum of money was seized, totaling “well over $20,000.”

“These were all kids,” Barnes said. “They were all living together, like I said, and they were selling drugs out of this apartment.”
