LIVE, founded by Sam Houston State University students in 2023, helps brings live music to campus.
LIVE, a student-led organization, promotes live music at Sam Houston State University. By hosting concerts and social events, the group provides a platform for student musicians and fosters a strong artistic community.
Founded in the summer of 2023 by student musicians, LIVE creates opportunities for students to perform and engage with the local music scene.
“We wanted musicians to share their work with the campus community,” LIVE vice president Everette Bolton said.
LIVE was born out of a passion for live music and a desire to bring more events to Huntsville. “Our mission is to build a strong community where performers and attendees can connect,” said President Mitchell Brenham.
Scheduling makes planning events challenging, with Bolton noting that “balancing school, work and rehearsals makes organizing difficult.” Limited access to high-quality equipment is another hurdle, but student and community support keeps them going.
“Aligning schedules is tricky and requires last-minute adjustments,” Brenham said, adding that seeing the event they put on become a success is reward enough.
Beyond concerts, LIVE prioritizes engagement. “We want people to see the faces behind the music,” Bolton said. “It builds connections and encourages collaboration, making us known as ‘the concert people.'”
The group is actively seeking new talent and collaborations.
For Brenham, organizing LIVE events has been transformative.
“It’s changed how I see other campus events and made me proactive in getting involved,” he said. “Creating events for students and the community has been rewarding and developed skills I’ll use beyond college.”
LIVE has several collaborations coming up, including events with the C.A.T. Cafe, 12th Street Bar and SHSU Swim Club. Brenham mentioned more details will be shared soon on GroupMe and Instagram, urging students to attend and promote local music.
Students can get involved through OrgLINK, GroupMe or by following @shsulive on Instagram.
“The best support is becoming a member and showing up to events,” Brenham emphasized.
