Former SHSU linebacker Todd Moebes, center, was approved as Huntsville ISD's next head football coach and athletic director on Tuesday.
A new head coach for Huntsville ISD was confirmed during a special board meeting on Tuesday. Todd Moebes was unanimously approved as head football coach and athletic director by the school district’s board of trustees.
HISD superintendent Scott Sheppard gave high praise to Moebes, who comes to Huntsville from Lockhart ISD, after the vote concluded.
“He changed the culture and guided their athletic programs to historic success,” Sheppard said. “He has the perfect background to honor our past hornet traditions.”
Moebes was previously the head coach at Lockhart High School for six years before coming to Huntsville. According to The Huntsville Item, he made the postseason three times during his time at Lockhart and achieved a record of 22-41.
This is not Moebes’ first time in Huntsville, having played linebacker at Sam Houston State from 1997 to 2000. Moebes said attending SHSU “helped shape” who he is today.
Moebes takes over for Rodney Southern, who resigned in February of this year. As stated in The Huntsville Item, Southern won three district titles and made the postseason eight times during the 11 years he coached for Huntsville.
“Huntsville gave so much to me and I just see this as an opportunity for me to be able to give back,” Moebes said. “I look forward to what’s to come.”
Moebes begins at HISD on March 24.
