Grammy-winner Bruno Mars will hit the stage this year as the mini-concert’s main attraction û a good move for the sport despite what some say.
“It’s just an honor,” Mars said at Times Square during Fox’s live pregame show. “We just got off tour, so being able to come to New York City and announce this is incredible.”
There are many who are opposed to the idea of Mars being the half-time entertainment, however, claiming that the NFL got a “nobody” to perform. Mars has big shoes to fill, as past performers include multi-Grammy winner Beyonce, Madonna, The Black-Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
However, Bruno Mars is exactly who the league should have contracted to perform for the half-time show because he is a refreshing new act to watch. The “Locked out of Heaven” singer has a strong voice, charming personality and a killer smile.
The Hawaiian native is not a stranger to the spotlight. When he was four, he took the stage as an Elvis impersonator while performing with his family’s band, The Love Notes. He has been capturing the hearts of many, wooing the ladies with not only his voice, but also his dance moves.
His performances are innocent, captivating and have a sense of a throwback style. He tends to dress and choreograph a ’70s like style, setting him apart from other present day performers. Something unique about his shows is his band, whom is able to bring the show to another level. Their instrumental choice includes the saxophone, trumpet and trombone in which creates a catchy jazzy tune that allows them to get into their music. During their live shows, the band is able to follow a simple choreographed move in which allows the audience to enjoy the performance even more.
Mars has performed on multiple live events, including the 2012 Victoria Secret Fashion Show, the 2011 Live Results Show for the X-Factor, the VMA’s, and as a musical guest for talk shows such as The Ellen Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He was able to captivate the audience then, so there is no doubt that he won’t be able to do the same during the half-time show.
