The Student Government Association of Sam Houston State University is kickstarting the season with a Spring Fest event aimed at getting students engaged with campus organizations. The event is scheduled for Thursday from 5-8 p.m. in the Frank Parker Plaza.
SGA is collaborating with other student organizations in an attempt to bring a fun-filled evening to students who are interested in learning more about some of the organizations offered on campus.
The festival will serve as SGA’s biannual recruitment event to inform students about the role of the organization and how they can get involved in student government.
According to Ashari Gordon, SGA caucus chair for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the event will also serve as an opportunity for students to get informed about the upcoming student body representative elections. Voting for the elections will take place from April 7-10.
The Spring Fest will include carnival themed games, a raffle, and free popcorn and snacks. Students are encouraged to get a punch on their punch card from two SGA tables and two others of their choosing to be entered into the raffle.
The raffle prizes include two Stanley cups, a mini-projector and a pair of Beats Studio Buds.
“The idea is to transform the Frank Parker Plaza into a vibrant carnival atmosphere,” said SGA vice president Maria Rojas-Caballero, who is coordinating the event.
