The Huntsville Christmas Parade was held on Saturday, stretching from Sam Houston Avenue to the local HEB. The Huntsville Lions Club, an organization which gives back to local charities around the city such as the Raven’s Revenge Bike Ride, sponsored the event. Greg Smith, owner of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home and member of the Lions Club since 1995, said the event’s revenue helps the local charities the club support. Organizations from around Walker County arrived to show their support, including Buzz Kirby, the first Lego League Coach with the team Cyberdog Robotics. Their float reflects the team’s goal to teach children more about robotics through Lego bricks. Smith believed that this year’s turnout would be the largest according to the registered entrants. These organizations included sororities, both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and local retail store Smiley’s. Spectators began placing their portable seats earlier than the 6:30 p.m. start time, wasting no area of the allotted route. Bunches of people were spaced around locations like the Walker County Courthouse and the Wynne Home on 11th street. Smith was one of the first cars the parade, leading the line of floats and walking demonstrators. Members of the parade, including city council members and fire fighters, threw various candies for spectators to grab. Each float or car ended at the HEB parking lot on 11th street, where they either rested or dispersed in different directions.
