The Storybook Fun Run, an event organized by the Time 2 Read organization, took place at University Heights Baptist Church on Saturday. The event began at the early hour of 7 a.m. Volunteers served drinks and snacks to participants of the run. A family crossing the finish line for the 5K run, dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz. This family won the prize for best family costume. Runners were given a commemorative medal upon completing the run. The first participant to cross the finish line in the Fun Run section of the event. A member of the Huntsville Police Department led the fun run’s start. Families had the option to run around the church’s parking lot twice or take a different route for the 5K run. Families stood in front of the stage to take a group photo with their costumes. These included a group with jellyfish themed umbrellas. McMichael and BJ McMichael, the Board President of A Time 2 Read, holding up the book Clayton Sparks Leaves His Mark. The book tells the story of Clayton Sparks, a 24-year-old who died after donating his liver to a donor in need. Holly McMichael, the Executive Director of A Time 2 Read, gave the opening remarks of the event. She expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event and the city of Huntsville and University Heights Baptist Church for hosting it. Attendees gathered to be judged by a group of judges to determine who won on the categories of children in costume, adults in costume, and families in costume. The organization’s goal is to strengthen the reading comprehension of second-grade students in Walker County Public Schools. The organization sends volunteers to 2nd-grade students to help children with reading skills.
