This past Valentine’s Day, 12th Street Bar hosted their third annual “Valloween” concert.
The term Valloween, coined by Halloween lovers, refers to a Halloween-themed Valentine’s Day, in which individuals dress up in costumes, eat candy and get spooky. The concert was full of all types of different costumes, showing that music lovers and those looking for love are all about celebrating the spooky season 365 days a year.
Michael Coleman, guitarist for the Huntsville-based band Coaxial Wake, shares what it was like to perform during the show, as well as his own thoughts on the term “Valloween.”
“I think it’s pretty fitting to perform on Valentine’s Day, as love is one of the biggest inspirations for musicians everywhere to write and make music,” Coleman said. “You could say music is love.”
Talking about Valentine’s Day can be a slippery slope sometimes, since it deals with emotions between various types of people. Different types of celebrations for Valentine’s Day are nothing new, such as “Galentine’s Day,” which is typically celebrated among women to show their friendship for one another.
“I don’t think the intertwining of Valentine’s Day and Halloween is that deep,” Coleman said. “I think it’s just a fun and creative take on regular old Valentine’s Day.”
