The hunt was on at SHSU yesterday, as the Lowman Student Center sponsored a scavenger hunt that covered all floors of the LSC.

The event started early, running first from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event then extended into the evening hours with an additional hunt from 4 pm. to 6 p.m., in order for students to fit it into their schedules.

Keri Rogers, director of the Lowman Student Center and Student Activities, said the goal of the scavenger hunt was to entice students into the new LSC, as well as inform them about the new features of the recently-renovated student center.

“The building has been closed for a while, and we wanted to get the students back in,” Rogers said.

The scavenger hunt had students go from floor to floor with a list of rooms to visit. Each of the rooms would give away trinkets, such as buttons and pencils, in addition to validation to show that the students were actually there.

Each stop along the scavenger hunt also educated students by informing them of the different services their particular office might provide, Rogers said.

“This gave the students a chance to discover the different programs and activities available at the LSC,” she said.

Once the form listing all the required rooms was completed, participating students were entered into a raffle for many interesting prizes, including a 20 percent university bookstore discount, a medium-sized television, a microwave. Barnes and Noble University Bookstore also offered free use of textbooks for one semester as a possible prize.

Another prize opportunity involved students selecting a key for the lockers next to Kat Klub. Whatever they found inside their locker they got to take home as a prize. The grand prize of that activity was a dinner for eight with SHSU President James Gaertner.

“The winner will be allowed to invite any seven friends to have dinner with the president,” Rogers said.

Aramark will catering the presidential dinner and also provided punch, cookies and ice cream to participants in the scavenger hunt.
