I know what you are thinking – “‘Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ wasn’t that in October?” Yes, it was, but what you don’t know is that the SHSU Department of Theatre and Dance put on a special production for the ACDFA South-Central Regional American Dance Festival that was held here at SHSU Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.
I was one of the lucky few that got to sit in and enjoy the production. Never before have I had such a great time at a production of any kind.
The cast encourages audience interaction and promotes yelling, dancing and gives you a bag filled with props so you can squirt the crowd with water. How cool is that?
Never before have I seen actors sell you with visuals and lip-syncing. The actors sold the parts they were playing and left you wanting more. So much seduction happened in such a little time frame.
Thumbs up also goes to the costume department for a job well done. The costumes were great, however I do feel sorry for the guys in the production because their costumes did not look comfortable in any way. The guys in this show definitely have more guts than I do.
“Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a dance production that even guys should want to go to. The raunchy costumes and themes of this musical mirror fabled male fantasies.
Director/choreographer Jilissa Cotton did a wonderful job with this production. The cast did a great job too.
If I had to rate this production, I would give it an 8.8 out of 10, simply because nothing is exactly perfect.
I hope this show comes back to our campus next year, because I look forward to seeing it again and I think you will too!
