Two students from Sam Houston State are trying to make it big in a business that is usually very hard to get into. However, these students, along with two other members, are working steadily to achieve a dream that befriends most young musicians.Their band is called “Taint” and not only has this group of four performed at many different places in the Houston area, they have a demo CD out which includes five songs called “Wash Your Privates”. Band members John Wayne Comunale and Michael Meachum, both seniors at Sam Houston State, believe the name is a “big audience catcher.”In 1998, Robert Colicotte, a current student at the University of Houston, worked with John Wayne Comunale at Barnes and Noble in Houston. The two got together and started playing around on guitar. Later, the two met with then 16-year-old Stephanie Moore on the Internet. Comunale knew Meachum since the second grade and asked him to come to a audition. The group took off from there.Comunale and Meachum both explained that their band has been labeled as an alternative rap band to a modern rock band, but believe their band to be something people have never heard before. “I treat our band like art. Being in the music business is not a competition, it’s art,” said Comunale. “That’s very important to me.”Upcoming shows for the band start this Saturday at Cardi’s on Highway 59 South and Bissonnet, opening at 8 p.m. and on Oct. 15 at Side Car Pub at 8 p.m.”We’re trying to create a unique sound that is original. Our type of music is not on the open-market. With Stephanie’s vocal talent, the bands’ music just seems to blow the crowd out of the water,” said Meachum.”Taint” sells its demo tape, T-shirts and gives away free stickers at each of its shows. The band will be recording its first CD in December at A-Tone Studios, working with producer and engineer Barry Michael. The release date is tentatively set for January. For more information, contact John Wayne or visit the Web site at www.taintband.com. The site should be completed within a week.
