Do you know anyone that is extremely lazy? Everybody knows someone who doesn’t do anything else but go to school and go to sleep when they get back. Despite taking part in some Playstation 2 tournament here and there, a majority of campus students are lazy. We want to be lazy. That’s it, plain and simple. We look for excuses to blame our laziness on so we can go on doing nothing and feel good about it. Our society makes accommodations to those who are lazy so they feel there is nothing wrong with doing what they are doing. In order to fully grasp the laziness as a concept, one must look from outside our complicated society that condones such acts. Our culture as we know it, is getting lazier as the years go by. New inventions are being made to ease our problems with everyday life as we know it, and these discoveries are also subconsciously making us lazier in the process. Although there are countless technologies distracting us, the biggest of these problems is obviously television because it has been distracting us for years. As much as I would like to, we cannot only blame television because it is the networks providing us with the programs that we watch. Companies are constantly developing shocking and uncommon phenomenons in an effort to appeal to our emotions in drastic ways so we are coerced into watching the programs without knowing it. Why be lazy Bearkats? Our university has too many things going on that anyone can participate in to be lazy. The Rec. Sports Department has developed countless activities to participate in including various intramural and club sports. These activities offer safe and viable competition to all university students wanting that cutthroat edge. Not only does Rec. Sports give you the opportunity to meet several new people while attempting to join their team, but it also allows you to create your own team and compete amongst friends. Our university also allows students to get in shape at the Health and Kinesiology Center. The HKC is open for the better part of a day. With hours ranging from early in the morning to late in the evening, it is hard to find a time of day to not get in shape. Obviously, not all students are lazy because these activities would not be in such high demand as they are, but face it: many of us are lazy, or at least have had our moments. It is time to turn off our televisions and put an end to the distractions in our life. Most of the students who do not like this university are the ones cooped up in their dorm room or their apartment, and they are the people who do not do anything all day long. Huntsville is going to be boring if you do not get involved. Wake up Bearkats! Go get involved and be amazed at the new opportunities available to you.
