Sam Houston State right-handed pitcher Rachel Atzenhoffer was named Southland Conference Softball “Pitcher of the Week” after two outstanding performances in Bearkat victories April 6 and 7.A sophomore from Canyon Lake, Texas, Atzenhoffer was on the mound in both of SHUS’s victories over Louisiana-Monroe. She pitched two complete games, including a five-hit shutout in the finale on Sunday afternoon. The shutout was her second of the season. For the series, Atzenhoffer struck out six batters, walked one and gave up 10 hits. The series win was the third in as many SLC series for the Bearkats and gave the team more conference victories in 2002 (seven) than the previous two seasons combined.
