It was a tough weekend in Dallas for Sam Houston, as the Bearkats dropped all three games to Dallas Baptist at Horner Ballpark. The sweep drops Sam Houston to 8-32 overall and 2-13 in Conference USA play.
Facing one of the hottest teams in the league, the Bearkats battled through each game and found a few standout moments despite the series slipping away.
Game One – Patriots Set the Tone Early
DBU wasted no time getting the offense going in Thursday’s opener, putting up five runs in the first inning and launching three straight solo homers in the second to take early control. The Patriots scored in every frame and cruised to a 17-4 win in seven innings.
The Bearkats did their best to damage late, plating four runs in the seventh thanks to a two-run double by Parker Blackman and RBIs from Easton Dean and Brady Christensen. Christensen and Blake Brown also picked up doubles earlier in the game. Noah Kendrick, who was coming off his strongest outing of the year, lasted two innings and took the loss.
Game Two – Christensen’s Career Day Not Enough to Slow DBU
The Patriots’ bats stayed hot on Friday, as they scored in each of the first four innings, including a nine-run third to secure an 18-4 win and the series.
Brady Christensen gave Bearkat fans something to cheer about, ripping a pair of triples to become the first Bearkat since 2017 to do so in a single game. Parker Blackman and Blake Brown each added two hits of their own, while Jace Martinez drove in a run with a double in the fifth. Cam Diaz got the start but was lifted after two innings and took the loss.
Game Three – Fast Start Fades in Series Finale
For the first time all weekend, the Bearkats struck first. RBI singles from Grant Nottlemann and Sam Lee gave Sam Houston a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but DBU answered with five runs in the bottom half and never looked back, finishing off the sweep with a 14-4 win in eight innings.
Ty Marthiljohni launched a two-run homer in the fourth, his second of the season, and Hunter Autrey chipped in with a pair of hits. Ryan Peterson struck out three in 3.2 innings on the mound, while freshmen Connor Mondey and Tate Hickman also saw action in relief.
Up Next
Sam Houston will visit College Station on Tuesday to take on Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park. The Bearkats will look to bounce back and put together a stronger showing against the Aggies after falling to them earlier this month.
