The Sam Houston women’s basketball season has come to an end after the Bearkats’ loss 78-51 to Liberty in the Conference USA tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday in Huntsville, Alabama.
Sam Houston knew it would be a tough match going against the No. 1 team in the conference, but still fought diligently. The Bearkats struggled with finishing shots, going 18-of-56 from the field. They also had 17 turnovers, which the Eagles turned into 20 points.
In the first half, SHSU worked to keep the score within eight points. However, a slow start after halftime allowed Liberty to run up the score, increasing their lead to 30 points, and the Bearkats couldn’t make up the difference in time.
“This was definitely not the outcome we wanted … but I’m really proud of my girls coming in today,” Sam Houston head coach Ravon Justice said. She also added on her thoughts now that season has ended, mentioning how fun it was to coach this group: “We spend time laughing and loving on each other.”
With Tuesday’s loss, the Bearkats’ offseason is now underway.
