Last week there was an article entitled, “UPD to renew evening ticket policy,” and I wondered, “What about when we are visiting friends across campus?” I have seen these ticket-happy people stroll through parking lots and get giddy as soon as they see a “violator.” They give tickets to people who are parking in a blue zone, when their car had a green sticker, and it was after 5 p.m. I was on my way to a meeting in the LSC, a meeting where many people from on and off campus attend. Why should these people receive get a ticket when they are coming to a meeting that only lasts about 3 hours? They leave before classes start in the morning.I suppose I am being a little harsh, but I also have received a ticket for $15 – for parking over a line. A freaking parking line! I don’t think that the ticketing officers should be so picky about a line, and so lenient on someone who parks in a “NO PARKING” zone for a few hours. But hey, I just pay for my parking sticker – my blue sticker, to park EXCLUSIVELY in a blue lot.I understand that the UPD has rules and can ticket anyone at anytime, but there is a point I think it should stop. I understand there are policies that have been on the books for a while, but I think some students would have liked to know that when they drive from off campus to see people on campus, that their visit does not end up costing them $15 or what ever UPD is trying to make us pay.
