The Peyton Irwin Foundation will be hosting its fifth annual Pineapple Run on Saturday, April 12 at the Walker County Annex building to raise awareness on the dangers of distracted driving.
The Pineapple Run is a one mile run, or walk, with all proceeds benefiting the Peyton Irwin Foundation, which was founded after the unfortunate passing of Peyton Irwin and three other passengers in a vehicle collision caused by a distracted driver in 2019. The Peyton Irwin Foundation strives to honor her memory by educating people on the dangers of texting, handling phones or otherwise being distracted while behind the wheel of a vehicle. The foundation also supports youth by awarding scholarships to students.
The Pineapple Run is an all-day event from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. filled with post-race activities including games, food, first responder demos and more.
Those interested in participating can register online and pick up their packet on Friday, April 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the University Heights Baptist Church.
