The Sam Houston women’s basketball team opened its home slate of conference play with a 50-38 victory over Western Kentucky on Thursday Night at Bernard G. Coliseum. This victory advances their win streak to six games and snaps their two-game losing streak against the Lady Toppers.
While claiming victory, head coach Ravon Justice believes there is some cleaning up to do before the Bearkats’ next game.
“From beginning to end, we were sloppy today,” Justice said. “It wasn’t a sloppy where we didn’t win the basketball game, it was a sloppy where we didn’t play the type of basketball I know we are capable of playing.”
Senior Fanta Kone led the Bearkats with 16 points and added four assists. Whitney Dunn, Deborah Ogayemi, and Nyla “Pop” Inmon controlled the boards, each recording six rebounds.
“I love playing with them because we know what each other does best,” Kone said. “We just make sure to put each other in the best situation.”
The Kats will face Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at Bernard G. Coliseum, looking to clean up their game to remain undefeated in conference play and extend their winning streak to seven games.
Justice said the Bearkats expect a competitive matchup and will be prepared for Middle Tennessee.
