On Wednesday, Sam Houston State University identified and repaired a pipe fitting that failed due to recent freezing conditions.
The failure led to the release of a red dye that is used for leak detection in the water system that cools campus buildings.
The university is aware that the dye has been observed in Town Creek (Eastham Thompson Park). This dye is considered non-hazardous.
The university is coordinating with the City of Huntsville, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and has engaged a third-party environmental consultant and contractor to complete any appropriate remedial action.
