The Sam Houston baseball team opened the season on the road in Lake Charles, Louisiana over the weekend, winning two out of three games against the McNeese Cowboys.
Game 1
On Friday, the Bearkats led the Cowboys for most of the night, but McNeese rallied to take the game from them in the 11th inning by a score of 9-8.
Sam Houston took the lead early in the top of the second with four runs batted in. The Bearkats led by as much as 7-2 until the last four innings, when the Cowboys scored 6 runs. With the Cowboys tying the game, they went into extra innings, where Hayden Stringfellow hit a single to finish the game.
Game 2
The Beakats came back on Saturday and evened out the series with a bang, beating the Cowboys 11-2.
Sam Houston came out of the first inning with a run and had three more in the third inning. Nathan Fink added a fifth-inning solo home run to left-center. Ryan Franden hit a home run in the sixth inning, while the Kats closed the game out with two runs in the seventh and a Ty Marthilijohni single in the eighth.
Game 3
On Sunday, the Bearkats took the series with an 8-5 win over the Cowboys.
The Bearkats gave up a run in the bottom of the first but came back in the top of the second with two runs. Ryan Franden hit another two homers in the game, with freshman Cade Corcoran joining him with a home run. Also shining was freshman pitcher Collin Aloisio, who earned his first collegiate win with five strikeouts and two runs allowed in five innings.
The Beaktas will head to Houston on Tuesday to take on Houston Christian University. The game will start at 6:30 p.m., with ESPN+ carrying the broadcast.
