The Sam Houston men’s basketball team pulled off an upset on Wednesday night with a 78-70 win over Wyoming.
The Bearkats’ record is now 2-2 for the 2025-2026 season
Head Coach Chris Mudge shared his thoughts on beating an undefeated team in his postgame press conference.
“I challenged our guys in our discipline and our toughness knowing how difficult this game was going to be,” Mudge said. “Wyoming is a really good, and they’re really advanced in a lot of those categories, and our for our young, experienced team, I challenged them to meet that level and exceed it, and they really stepped up to it.”
Senior Vejko Ilic scored a team-high 18 points for the Bearkats, while Isiah Manning added 15 points, and both Damon Nicholas Jr and Po’Boigh King finished with 11 points.
“After the loss against Utah last Saturday, we came together and had a lot of talk about being a better team and sharing the ball, and I think we did that tonight,” said Ilic after the game.
SHSU shot 42.3% from the field, while Wyoming shot 45%. The Bearkats shot 87.9% from the free throw line, and the Cowboys shot 40.9% from the free throw line. This helped the Bearkats get the win over the Cowboys.
