March 2 the Grave is an SHSU and Huntsville tradition that dates back to 1893. The event, which is held annually on March 2, serves as a celebration of Gen. Sam Houston’s birthday. Students, faculty and community members gather at Old Main Pit before marching to Houston’s gravesite, where a ceremony is held.
The event coincides with Texas Independence Day, which is also March 2.
