UPDATE: Sam Houston State University has cancelled Monday’s classes for all campus locations, citing “icy conditions in the region” in a KatSafe alert sent out Sunday morning. Per the university, Generals Market will remain open for regular weekend dining hours, as well as from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
The article below was published Saturday morning.
Katsafe sent out an emergency update Friday at 2:23 p.m., noting that due to the upcoming winter storm forecasts, all non-essential campus operations will be closed starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday through Sunday evening.
This includes the complete closure of the LSC (Lowman Student Center), the recreation center and the library.
However, dining halls will remain open with normal weekend hours at the time of this most recent update. As for class cancellations for Monday and possibly Tuesday, SHSU’s IMC (Integrated Marketing Communications) department did not have a confirmed decision from the university as of Friday evening. Some professors have already chosen to cancel classes due to the increased risk of transportation, especially for commuters.
The National Weather Service highly discourages travel throughout late Saturday and early Sunday, but recommends that if you must travel, to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
